Central Venous Access in Critical Care has continued to evolve with practice variations, from managing complex infusion plans, intubated patients, and pronation of patients. The environmental and resource pressures of COVID-19 have brought to the forefront the challenges in managing Vascular Access in the intubated and critical care environments. This presentation will cover the recommendations that will minimize risks, reduce utilization of valuable resources and optimize patient care while reducing exposures to our healthcare providers.

Mauro Pittiruti, MD, Catholic University Hospital Roma, Italia
Prof. Dr. Mauro Pittiruti is a surgeon and Professor of Vascular Access of the Catholic University Hospital in Rome, coordinator of a multi-professional vascular access team that inserts more than 7,000 central venous access devices per year. He practices and publishes countless research in the field of venous access for 40 years, is co-founder of the Italian Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (SINPE), the Italian Group of Venous Access Devices (GAVeCeLT) and the WoCoVA Foundation (World Conference of Vascular Access). He is the author of more than one hundred peer-reviewed medical publication, several book chapters, two books on venous access and contributor to several guidelines, recommendations and practice guidance’s. He is also a member and 2009 Herbst Award recipient, the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Association for Vascular Access.
Jack LeDonne, MD, FACS, VA-BC, Medical Director Chesapeake Vascular Access
Dr. Jack LeDonne graduated from Fordham University and St. George’s University, School of Medicine, in Grenada. He completed his surgical residency at the Wyckoff Heights Hospital, in Brooklyn, and fellowships at the Shock-Trauma Center in Baltimore and Harvard Medical School, Cambridge, Mass. He is presently the medical director at Chesapeake Vascular Access and a partner at Vascular Access Consultants. He also has ten publications, including two with videos, to his credit. Jack is a strong believer in the power of video as an educational tool. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Vascular Access Board Certified and a past president, and the 2018 Herbst Award recipient, the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Association for Vascular Access.

Matthew Ostroff is an Advanced Practice Nurse working as the Vascular Access Coordinator and Lead Clinician specializing in pediatrics and adults at St. Joseph's Health in Paterson, NJ, another pandemic epicenter. He has multiple publications on the use of the femoral vein in the mid-thigh and subcutaneous tunneling. And, most impressively, just yesterday, it was officially announced that Matt will receive this year’s 2020 Herbst Lifetime Achievement Award from AVA
